This is a super late gig report but I feel obliged to come back and do a little write up - it was such a great night. Matt and I ventured up to North London - I was kind of responsible for directions but Matt soon took control of this as well. Directions are not my strong suit. We got to the venue in good time and were very happy to find a lovely venue (like amazing - check the photos!) and an even nicer bunch of folks. I totally loved the set by Neil Gilmartin who opened the night. He has a brilliantly unique and very English voice and weaves some lovely guitar lines underneath it all. Great heartfelt stuff with some little funny bits around the edges too. Absolutely loved his stuff.
During my set I think I was got a bit carried away with the feelings of warm fuzzies coming from the crowd and stepped into severe ADHD territory. I talked an awful lot, sang a bit and even gave a quick lesson on line dancing. I also gave Matt a bit of a hard time which was a bit rough considering the great job he did getting us there and he’s rather lovely work on the Wurlitzer. It was great having him there. The biggest mention though must go again to the Little Light Mini Wembley experience. The place was lit up so bright from all the waving mobile phones that I thought I was on the road to Damascus or something. It was crazy and beautiful. I still feel quite emotional about it all.
Big love to all at St James. Thanks for having us.
Sorry for the delay on the gig report. Really enjoyed the gig at The Bedford a few weeks back - its a beautiful venue with super friendly staff. It was also great the room was pretty full of friendly punters. A really great vibe. The ‘Little Light’ mobile phone extravaganza was the best yet with phones being lifted all around the room, even up in the gallery. I nearly cried. Highlight of the night though was making a right spectacle of my clumsy self by swinging my arm like a clutz and smashing a glass - right at the most quiet moment. Respect to Jen H for her ninja like reflexes. Could never have forgiven myself if I would have injured one of my most committed supporters. Also thanks to Dan Weeks for the little videos. Sweet!
Dan and Mr Weeks also took some photo’s you can see at Flickr.
What a fantastic night. A small room, great friends, a tasty acoustic set by Shackleton, a lovely new guitar, a brilliant band vibe with Dan and Matt, new songs that went down well, lots of laughs between songs - just a fantastic night. The gig was filmed too so as soon as I can I’ll get the footage up here. In the meantime you can check some photos on Flickr.
I really enjoyed this gig so much. There are still cool folks out there putting on music nights for the love! Lee Gordon is such a fellow, a really gracious host putting on a really fantastic, chilled out night in a really cool space. Special mentions must go to little Kelly Jones (Stereophonics) for leaving just before we played and missing the gig of his life, tuberider’s sister (for being tuberider’s sister), Jennifer for being the best music promoter in the business, Matt Weeks for laying down some great chops on the wurlitzer, my wife for being cute and ordering the most wrong looking plate of nachos ever created and taking this cool photo, and Matt Weeks again for the lift home. Was fantastic to do a few new songs and just let it rip. Heck - what a fun night!!!
Some of you may remember a really top gig at Jrink in Soho back in September. You may also remember our friend Amy who was pointing a fancy camera around the place. Well as you can see from the shot above she took some fine photos - check them out and if you are in Oz and need a photographer give her a yell.
